The Milk of Shirk? Q&A by Shaykh Dimashqiah

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

salam alaikum brother
i have a weird question to you, i hope u can answer it.
we know that protein is making ones body strong and builds it up, because it's all muscle. now if i drink some milk (which has much protein), and i have the intention that this glass milk is going to build my body up, is it then shirk?
is it not Allah who controls the protein that gets into my body, and the protein ofcourse has no will, so Allah controls it. so if allah controls the protein then it means that when i drink the milk, it is Allah who builds my body up thru the protein?
Or is it the protein that builds my body up by the permission of Allah?
So if i want to become bigger and i need protein, so therefore I eat alot. what intention should i have when i eat? and last. does Allah control the things that dont have a will (i.e milk, protein, food etc.) when these comes into our stomach and form our bodies from there on?  i am not so good at english, forgive me.
wa. salam alaikum, and jazakallah for ur videos, amazing. i learn alot thanks to these videos.

In the Name of Allah

If you believe that it is a means that Allah created means in this life, then it is not shirk.

Read this verse carefully:

57. And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy [i.e. rainfall] until, when they have carried heavy rain clouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain thereby and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring the dead; perhaps you may be reminded.

As you see the term: (thereby) used twice by Allah.

This is the doctrine of Ahlussunnah: they believe that Allah created things which have effects as means, for instance: the knife is a reason of slaying, for sure it is not the creator of slaying but means. Like wise is the fire which has by itself the nature of burning, and the water has the means of satisfying from thirst.

The Ash'aris denied the means to oppose Mutazilah's defiance, who acknowledged the means a part from Allah.

The Ash'aris claimed that whoever believes that the fire is the cause of burning he is mushrik.

This is really silly and unreasonable.

We Ahlussunnah believe that Allah created the fire as means of burning, and by it we can cook food as Allah said that by the water he causes fruits to grow.

So if Allah made the milk as a means of growing muscles and you believed this so it is not a matter of Shirk.
